In the next couple of weeks I’ll be publishing a review I’ve written of Lydia McGrew’s recent volume Testimonies to the Truth: Why You Can Trust the Gospels (DeWard, 2023). McGrew is one of the central figures in the maximal data camp and she’s written extensively on the Gospels. Given the growing interest in the maximal data approach to apologetics and McGrew’s work specifically, I thought it might be time to weigh in on the subject, fully aware of my own status as a mere amateur. I hope to make some meager contribution to the discussion and at least offer some push back on the more problematic areas of the maximal data approach as it relates to the Gospels. Both of my readers will hopefully let me know how it goes.
In any event, recently I participated in a discussion with @AlchemistNon and Matthew Hartke wherein we reviewed Testimonies to the Truth for a YouTube video. We couldn’t cover the entire book but I think we hit many of the highlights and strongest arguments made in the volume. But I’ll let viewers decide how we did. It’s over 3 hours in length and a lot of that is because I don’t know when to shut up. (My apologies!) But I hope you get something out of it!
