A Biblical Ghost Story: Paul Davidson on Saul and the Witch of Endor

Over at his YouTube Channel The Inquisitive Bible Reader, Paul Davidson recently published a video covering the weird story found in 1 Samuel 28:3-25. There the king of Israel, Saul, consults with a medium to inquire of the now-deceased Samuel what he should do in light of the political turmoil surrounding him. (Spoiler alert: Saul didn’t get the answer he was hoping for.) In his video on this passage, Davidson goes through the story, placing it in literary and historical context. For example, the author of the text must have known something about necromancy and mediums since, per Davidson, he knew they were “auditory-only experiences” (cf. v. 14).
