The Roundup – 10.11.26

  • CJ Cornthwaite talks about a Bible “errors” that are often subtle and are created by either our English translations, the hermeneutics we use to read them, or the shape and nature of the canon.

Thanks for these. I’ve visited the Intertextual Bible site from time-to-time since you included it in the one earlier round-up.

It’s not really related to anything above, but out of curiosity: Have you ever come across people using a “hermeneutical” approach to the Bible in which verses describing divine killings have to be explained away because God *can’t* kill anyone?

I was asking because just the other day there was an apologist on a forum responding to a critique of penal substitution and they were adamant that only humans are capable of killing. They proceeded to somehow claim that the people wiped away in the Genesis flood were only taking a chance to kill themselves and ditto for Pharaoh’s army at the Red Sea.

It’s popped up in other places too and wasn’t sure if there were any verses or denomination-specific doctrines that could be behind their thought process.
