Althought we cannot be sure where the Gospel was produced, the situation is rather clearly dependent on the Jewish war. The main question debated by scholars is whether it was written just prior to the destruction of Jerusalem or sometime afterward. Arguments based on internal evidence of the Gospel can be mounted on both sides, but tend to favor a date of writing after the destruction had taken place, hence sometime between 70 and 75 CE. In large measure, the dating depends on how one understands references and images in chapters 11-13 in relation to the destruction of Jerusalem.
